A new bombshell report released by the San Francisco Chronicle this morning details how high-level immigration judges engaged in extremely offensive and harmful sexual harassment in the workplace. Those familiar with the court system said that there was extreme pressure to stay silent regarding the conduct, but that their silence meant that they knew the behavior would just continue on longer.![]()
Rather than be adequately reprimanded, all three judges were able to skirt by with little to no repercussions. One judge who made a joke about genitalia during an immigration hearing was actually later promoted, other judges were either transferred or relocated after making similarly harassing comments.![]()
The report outlines that when the Justice Department was asked about these allegations before President Biden’s inauguration they declined to comment on specific allegations, but said that “generally it follows department procedures on misconduct.” The Biden administration has yet to comment.![]()
It’s clear that despite a big step forward on Biden’s first day in office, we still have a long way to go before we have a system that treats immigrants fairly. #immigration #immigrationnews #immigrationlawyer #asylumseekers
